    As a Public Benefit Corporation, sustainability and social impact have always been integrated into our brand. We’ve reevaluated the foundation of our business to become Climate Positive by offsetting 110% of our annual carbon emissions.

    Climate change is complicated, and we may not know the best path forward in our sustainability journey yet. But we do know that we have to do something, now – as a company; as a community; and as individuals.

    To help do our part, we’re measuring, reducing, and offsetting our annual carbon emissions… then offsetting more.

    We're measuring our carbon emissions at every single part of our operations–from factory-level production to worldwide shipping to our daily office activity. This will give us an accurate picture of our impact on the planet and is the first step to understanding how to reduce that impact with new business practices. We conduct an initial assessment at the end of every year to determine where to focus our reduction efforts. Currently, our reduction focus is in the top areas where we emit the most carbon – production and outbound transportation.

    We believe the best way to fight climate change is through collective action. That's why we've seriously reassessed our business operations and continue to challenge our team to do the same in their daily lives.

    As a consumer packaged goods brand, waste and emissions are inevitable products of a supply chain system… and we believe that businesses should be accountable for minimizing their negative impact on the planet. We’re choosing to take responsibility for Thousand’s annual impact by completely offsetting all of the carbon emissions that we can’t reduce – and then offsetting more to create a net positive effect for the climate.

    This is the first step in a long, complicated journey, but we’re giving 110% to do our part where we think we can make the biggest difference. There may be a lot that we don’t know, but what we do know is that we have to do something, and we have to do it now.

    Greenhouse gases like carbon dioxide are being emitted at an increased rate, trapping heat in our atmosphere, warming the planet, and causing unprecedented consequences like raging wildfires, powerful storms, and rising sea levels.

    Our Path Forward

    Measure. Reduce. Offset. Offset More.

    In 2019, we partnered with Climate Neutral to measure our annual carbon emissions, reduce what we can, and offset what we can't. Carbon offsets are investments in projects that capture and absorb some of the carbon in the atmosphere, like rehabilitating deforested areas or developing wind and solar energy.

    Climate change is complicated, but we take our commitment to sustainability seriously. To forge a better future, we need to act now. Starting in 2020, we’re offsetting 110% of our annual carbon emissions in order to give back to the planet more than we take.
