Gearing up your little biking buddy is the first step to keeping your family safe while riding. It also instills important life lessons they’ll take with them for years to come. Whether your kiddo is riding in a bike trailer, going mountain biking, or skateboarding around the driveway, a youth bike helmet is going to provide the right level of impact protection for their age.
Be in the know before you buy the best bike helmet for your little one. Explore our most common questions about the Thousand Jr.
In our world, there’s no such thing as a boys bike helmet or a girls bike helmet. We designed the Thousand Jr. as a unisex style helmet. That means, every kiddo, no matter how they identify, can find a color that’s just right for them.
The beauty of the Thousand Jr. is in the retro design. Our EPS foam mold construction is combined with a hard outer shell in four bold colorways. We’re talking Power Pink, Blazing Blue, Going Green, and So Silver. There’s a built-in visor to keep sun out of their eyes and six vents with interior cooling channels to keep the airflow going while they’re zooming around. Each helmet has a comfy vegan leather microfiber chin strap with a chin pad for added softness. The pinch-guard magnetic buckle makes getting in and out of the helmet a breeze.
You won’t find Spider-Man or mohawks or princesses around here. But you will find a blank canvas and super fun reflective stickers to let their creative personalities shine. Oh, and did we mention the retro design?
Grade-schoolers, this helmet’s for you. The Thousand Jr. youth bike helmet is recommended for kids ages 5-11. It’ll fit any child’s head with a circumference of 49-53cm. The built-in fit system ensures a perfect fit with just a few clicks to tighten or loosen. So grab your Schwinn, hop on that banana bike seat and get riding! Just don’t forget to wear a helmet!
We care about safety. It’s why we started the company in the first place. The Thousand Jr. multi-sport helmet is safety certified times three — including CPSC, ASTM, and CE — for biking, roller skating, and skateboarding in both North America and Europe. In addition to biking, it can be worn as a skateboard helmet, a scooter helmet, and a BMX helmet.
At this time, we don’t currently offer an MIPS kids bike helmet. That said, we’re continually innovating and may decide to explore an MIPS helmet design for youth in the future.
The Thousand Jr. comes in one size: Extra Small, which measures 19.3-20.9 inches (49-53cm). It’s designed to grow with your child. With just a few clicks, the fit system dials in a perfect fit and can be tightened or loosened depending on your child’s head circumference.
It’s easy to measure your child’s head.
We released the Thousand Jr. in response to all of the thoughtful feedback about offering a kids bike helmet. Unlike some brands and styles you might be familiar with (Joovy Noodle Helmet, Raskullz Miniz, Giro Scamp, Bern Nino, and others), we don't currently have a toddler bike helmet or infant helmet.
That’s not to say that we won’t in the future. Our product development team is busy imagining the next Thousand innovation. To stay up to date on releases, we recommend joining our email list located at the bottom of our website and following us on Instagram.
Thousand Jr. comes in four kid-approved soft touch or glossy premium finishes. Power Pink is a solid matte blush rose. Blazing blue is a matte royal blue. Going Green is a matte emerald green. So Silver is a glossy silver with all-over sparkle. Each color is paired with complementary matte white along the perimeter of the helmet for a retro look. Style meets safety for the adventurous and active kids in your life.
Glad you asked! We put together four custom sticker packs to encourage kiddos to express themselves. They’re reflective for extra visibility and removable for endless creative combinations. Here’s an idea: Grab the Letters pack to make a personalized helmet or fun Haikus. Or, try the Jr. Activist pack for the little changemaker in your life.
We also designed and developed the Thousand Jr. Bicycle Bell for little hands. It features matching (or mixing) colorways just like in the Thousand Jr. youth bike helmet collection. Our steel bells have a glossy finish and come in four different designs inspired by the sticker packs. It fits most standard handlebars with a 22.2mm diameter.
Wonderful. Not only does this helmet do it’s intended job while my 3 year old son is on his bike, he wears it when playing in the yard after he’s done biking because it is THAT COOL! Thank you for producing such well made and loved gear.
My God son love his present. He was super excited to use stickers to decorate. When his helmet will be small he will readjust it for his sister.
We’ve had this helmet for roughly 6 months and it has been great! My son loved customizing it with the included stickers. I love how easy it is to adjust to his head. The magnet strap is a game changer, makes it super easy to get on and off. Worth every penny! I highly recommend!
My partner bought a Chapter Mips helmet and I bought the Heritage. The measurements and how to measure for your head on the website are true to fit and size. We love the helmets. Fast delivery. Even though we ordered prior to June sale, customer service applied the 20% off after conversation. I love this company, for how they are changing the market, but also their vision and mission.
Love the fit and design of it. Love that it comes with accident replacement!
Great helmet. Keeps my kid protected and looking good at the same time.
My toddler loves this helmet and he often hates hat. He already knows that when we ride our bike, we need to put our helmet on. It looks great and I love the buckle, the leather, and all the little details. Highly recommend!
Ordered 3 helmets from Thousand… the ordering, shipping and receiving time was flawless and very quick. I live at the very eastern side of Canada… had to pay $34 Canadian for customs which I feel was excellent for 3 items… I had 2 adults and one junior… they are ABSOLUTELY GORGEOUS… Love everything about them from the unique style, fit and comfort…the two adult ones were size Small for my daughter and me.. the junior one was for my 5 year old grandson… only issue was the Junior one sized XS.. was to small for him.. he is not a big kid just the average 5 year old… It was still so awesome my daughter is planning to order a bigger one for him… so do the size measurements before ordering… These helmets are awesome.. LOVE MINE…!!!!!!!
My 6-year old loves his helmet! He was so excited to apply the stickers and get it all dialed in the way he wanted it. He has multiple helmets and always chooses this one when it's time for brain protection. :) I just put his other helmets in the donate pile last week...like the old advert - kid tested, mother approved!!!
This helmet is so cool and easy to strap on. My kiddo loves to wear it and I feel good knowing he’s safe!
